The Stars get back home and keep their winning ways in the AAC going Wednesday night with the win against the Flames - and there are plenty of talking points:
-- If you read this blog, you know I have bought many shares of Mark Fistric, but I think it is safe to say that Mark will be watching the next several games from the press box after the unfortunate clubbing with the helmet that he committed in the 1st period. I don't think for a second that he meant to do it, but I also don't think for a second it really matters. The league will look at that video that doesn't look good, and they will lay the smack down I would suspect. On the other hand, I am watching NHL on the Fly this morning, and they didn't even mention it, so I guess we should wait and see.
-- 7-0-1 on home ice! They are starting to get a little confidence, and when they get behind they still believe they can get a result. I thought the way they took the game to Calgary in the 3rd period was outstanding.
-- This team is 100% different to play against when Brenden Morrow and Steve Ott are engaged and ready for war. I think they both have another gear that they can get to, and when they go there, the opponents are not to happy to see them hop over the boards. We need more of that, especially on the road. More Cowbell.
-- Loui Eriksson was great last night with the assist on the James Neal goal, many more golden chances, and then perhaps an Olympic preview as Eriksson (Sweden) beats Kiprusoff (Finland) to get the shootout win. I cannot believe how good he has played these last two seasons. A real credit to the Stars for nursing him along and a credit to him for taking every opportunity and delivering.
-- Is there anything more beautiful than the Mike Modano one-timer? Cannot believe we had the left-handed one-timer of Modano and the right-handed one-timer of Hull on the same Power Play for 3 seasons. Kind of explains how they won a Cup and went to another Cup Finals in those years, you know?
-- Tall, Bald, Alex Auld delivers again. Crawford said he gives them the best chance to win. Strange to hear, but hard to dispute.
-- All of the disappointment and chaos of the Stars January, and you look up and see the Stars are 2 points out of the playoff mix again. They are right there. Dig, dig, dig!
-- Tom Wandell's injury really hurts. He has emerged from nowhere and shown us that he can contribute quite a bit every night. I hate to see him down, but I also love the upside for 2010-11 and beyond. He looks like a true keeper, so we should all hope to see him 100% in October.
-- Colorado on Friday. I think Dallas owes them a few.
