ROBIDAS NAMED TO PLAY IN NHL ALL-STAR GAME
The National Hockey League announced today that Dallas Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas
has been named to the 2009 NHL All-Star Game. Robidas will replace injured Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom on the Western Conference squad. The 57th NHL All-Star Game will be played this Sunday evening at Montreal’s Bell Centre (5 p.m. CT, VERSUS, Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket).
This will mark Robidas’ first NHL All-Star appearance. The Sherbrooke, Quebec, native grew up a Canadiens fan and broke into the league with Montreal in 1999.
"To be an All-Star anywhere would be great," Robidas said. "But to play in Montreal, that will be something very special."
Robidas has appeared in 41 games for Dallas this season, leading the team in time-on-ice per game at 24:28. He has scored two goals and added 16 assists for 18 points with a +9 rating (also tops on the team).
"Stephane has earned this honor,” Stars Head Coach Dave Tippett said. “He has been given an opportunity with our team and he has seized it. He is such a hard-worker; he really epitomizes how we want to play as a team."
Robidas joins teammate Mike Modano on the Western Conference All-Star Team. Stars forward James Neal will also be in Montreal as part of the YoungStars Game, presented by Upper Deck.
“This is a tremendous honor,” said Robidas. “I am really looking forward to it.”
