FRISCO, Tex. -- The Dallas Stars announced today that the NHL club will be hosting a series of free street hockey clinics this summer. Stars front office representatives and local high school hockey players will be running the clinics at city recreation centers, YMCA's and Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the Metroplex during the months of July and August.
The street hockey clinics will target kids from 5 to 14 years-old and will cover hockey fundamentals such as stick-handling, passing and shooting. Participants will also receive instruction on the rules of the game, basic positional technique, and proper use of equipment. The free clinics are aimed at introducing kids to the game of hockey and offering them an inexpensive, year-round version of the sport.
The Stars will be providing sticks, street pucks and balls and other hockey equipment for the clinics. The only thing participating kids will need are normal sneakers or tennis shoes.
The Dallas Stars' Street Hockey Clinics are an extension of the NHL StreetStars program, which has been active since the Stars came to Dallas in 1993. Currently, 15 activity centers throughout the Metroplex operate as StreetStars centers and include annual street hockey leagues on their calendar of activities.
Any local center interested in joining the NHL StreetStars program, or would like to host a summer street hockey clinic, please call the Dallas Stars Community Relations Department at 214-387-5526.
