Stars Sign Philip Larsen To Entry-Level Deal

FRISCO, Tex. – The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has signed defenseman Philip Larsen to a three-year entry-level contract. Larsen was Dallas’ fifth-round selection (No. 149 overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft and spent the 2008-09 season with Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League.

Larsen, 19, collected 17 points (2 goals, 15 assists) and 18 penalty minutes with a +7 rating in 53 games with Frolunda this season. He led all club defenseman in plus/minus, and among Frolunda blue-liners, placed second in assists and third in points. Larsen’s head coach at Frolunda last season was Ulf Dahlen, former Stars assistant coach.

In 2007-08, the 5-11, 185-pound defenseman skated in 16 games with Frolunda, collecting two penalty minutes. He added 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in 24 games with Boras in the Swedish second division that season.

A native of Esbjerg, Denmark, Larsen became the first Danish defenseman to ever be selected in the NHL Entry Draft, and just the sixth Dane overall to be drafted. He has represented his country at four consecutive World Junior Championships (2006-2009), as well as the 2006 World Under-18 Championships.
