The native of Trencin, Slovakia, has recorded 17-52-69 points with 120 penalty minutes in 209 career NHL appearances, all with Minnesota. His most productive NHL season came in 2000-01, when he tallied 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 80 games (all career-highs). The 80 games set a Wild franchise record for games played by a defenseman in one season.
Sekeras played in 15 playoff games with the Wild last season, scoring the game-winning goal in Game Six of Minnesota's Western Conference Semifinal series vs. Vancouver.
Minnesota's eight choice (232nd overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Sekeras played with Trinec from 1995-2000, scoring 51-106-157 points in 244 career Czech League games. He competed for Team Slovakia at the 1998 and 2001 World Championships.
Sekeras will join the Stars upon completion of his immigration paperwork. Dallas will play at Pittsburgh tonight (6:30 p.m. CT, FSN), at Philadelphia on Thursday (6 p.m., kdfi 27), at Detroit on Saturday (2 p.m. CT, ABC), and at Chicago on Sunday (2 p.m. CT, FSN).
