Stars Sign D-Man Patrick Traverse

FRISCO, Tex. - Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed defenseman Patrick Traverse to a one-year deal for the 2004-2005 season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal was disclosed.

Traverse, 30, appeared in 80 games with Hamilton of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, recording five goals and 21 assists for 26 points with 31 penalty minutes. Among team leaders, he ranked eighth in assists and ninth in points. The 6-4, 218-pound defenseman also played in 10 playoff games with Hamilton, posting three points (1-2-3).

The Montreal, Quebec native, has appeared in 278 career NHL games with the Ottawa Senators (1995-2000), the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (2000), the Boston Bruins (2000-2001) and the Montreal Canadiens (2001-2003). In his 278 career NHL games, Traverse has tallied 14 goals and 51 assists for 65 points with 113 penalty minutes.

Collecting his best offensive NHL season with Ottawa in 1999-2000, Traverse posted six goals and 17 assists for 23 points in 66 games. He also appeared in six playoff games with the Senators in 2000, his only NHL playoff season. His last NHL season was spent with Montreal in 2002-2003 where he spent the entire season with the Canadiens. In 65 games with Montreal, he notched 13 assists with 24 penalty minutes.
