Tyler Seguin should be OK for World Cup, Stars say

DALLAS-- Forward Tyler Seguin should be healthy enough to play for Team Canada at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill said Friday.
Seguin missed all but one game of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a calf injury. Dallas lost a seven-game series to the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference Second Round.

"He has been skating and seems to be having no troubles," Nill said at a fan event in downtown Dallas. "There's a little bit of stiffness there still, but he feels comfortable and should be ready for the World Cup."
Seguin played Game 2 of the Western Conference First Round against the Minnesota Wild, a series Dallas won in six games.
Seguin was second to Jamie Benn on the Stars with 40 assists and 73 points in 72 games last season. Benn signed an eight-year, $76 million contract extension Friday.

Nill said offers have been exchanged with forward Valeri Nichushkin, a restricted free agent. Nill said he has no concerns that Nichushkin, Dallas' first-round pick (No. 10) in the 2013 NHL Draft, would return to Russia to play in the Kontinental Hockey League. The 21-year-old had 20 assists and 29 points in 79 games last season.
"[Nichushkin] is over here training and I don't think there's that issue," Nill said. "[Nichushkin] wants to be in the NHL and he wants to have a good year this year."
Stars president Jim Lites on Friday announced they will raise $100,000 for The Line of Duty Fund, an organization created to help Dallas Police and Dallas Area Rapid Transit officers and their families affected by the shootings of July 7.
