Stars recall Bacashihua, assign Smith, Miettinen to Utah

Dallas Stars General Manger Doug Armstrong announced today that the NHL club has recalled goaltender Jason Bacashihua from the Utah Grizzlies, Dallas' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League. In addition, the Stars have assigned center Antti Miettinen and goaltender Mike Smith to Utah.
Bacashihua, 21, has appeared in 23 games with Utah this season, accumulating a 6-13-3 record with a 2.65 goals-against-average (GAA), a .907 save percentage, and two shutouts. He was recalled by Dallas on emergency conditions on Dec. 16 but did not appear in a game. Bacashihua was returned to Utah on Dec. 23. The 5-11, 175-pound goalie has never appeared in an NHL game. He was Dallas' first round pick (26th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Miettinen, 23, has played in 16 games with the Stars this season, scoring one goal. He was recalled by Dallas on Jan. 19. Miettinen has appeared in 14 games for Utah, scoring 4-6-10 points with four penalty minutes. He was the Stars' seventh round selection (224th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Smith, 21, has appeared in 18 games for Utah this season, earning a 7-9-0 record with a 2.86 GAA, a .909 save percentage, and one shutout. He was recalled by Dallas on Jan. 7, but did not appear in a game for the Stars. Smith was Dallas'fifth round selection (161st overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
