About the Stars

The Stars (23-21-8) lost 3-2 at Buffalo Saturday. The Stars fell behind 3-0 in the game by the six-minute mark of the second period and could never catch up. Dallas had a 40-24 shots advantage.

“It's frustrating," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. “I still think it starts with us not playing well enough defensively. For about 10 minutes in the second period, they took over. We came back and didn't stop and didn't play the game we needed to play.”

It was the third straight loss (0-2-1) for the Stars, who fell to seven points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

“We’ve thrown away some points we are going to need in April,” said Stars center Cody Eakin. “We need to buckle down and get them back.”

Sunday’s game is the second of a three-game road trip for the Stars.

Injuries: LW Travis Moen (lower body), RW Valeri Nichushkin (hip) and D Patrik Nemeth (arm) are out.

About the Rangers

The Rangers (30-16-4) lost 3-2 at Nashville Saturday afternoon. Mike Ribeiro’s goal with 7:14 remaining in the third period snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted the Predators to the victory. The Rangers outshot Nashville 32-23.

“It was a good hockey game," Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault said. “Both teams competed really hard, and I really liked the way we played on the road today. We really didn't give them too many opportunities, and a couple of those goals against the puck had eyes and found holes. We spent a lot of time in their end. I like the way we played, and we'll get back at it tomorrow night.”

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Rangers.

F Derek Stepan did not play Saturday due to illness. F Jesper Fast suffered a sprained knee in Saturday’s game and is out.

The Rangers are expected to be without No. 1 goaltender Henrik Lundqvist for at least three weeks. Lundqvist suffered a vascular injury after being hit in the neck with a puck last weekend.

Injuries: F Derek Stepan (illness) is questionable. G Henrik Lundqvist (vascular) and F Jesper Fast (knee) are out.
