The Stars (38-19-7) lost 3-2 in overtime to Detroit at American Airlines Center Monday. Stars center Vernon Fiddler scored with 1:31 remaining to tie the game, but Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk scored a power-play goal at 2:33 of overtime to hand Dallas its third straight loss (0-2-1).

“I thought we played a hell of a game,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “We might have played our best game in a long time. We just missed too many great opportunities. I really can’t find a guy I didn’t like in the game. We should have scored four or five, but right now we don’t have an ounce of puck luck going on.”

The Stars fell to 1-4-2 in their past seven games.

Dallas acquired defenseman Kris Russell from Calgary just prior to Monday’s NHL trade deadline. He could join the team in Nashville Tuesday, but his playing status is up in the air because he needs to complete the work visa process.

Injuries: RW Patrick Eaves (illness) is out.

The Predators (31-21-11) won their fourth straight game, defeating St. Louis, 5-0, at Bridgestone Arena Saturday. Filip Forsberg scored three goals, and Pekka Rinne stopped 28 shots for Nashville, which has points in nine straight games (6-0-3).

"A lot of times you have great confidence," Predators coach Peter Laviolette told NHL.com. "A lot of our guys do right now. There's quite a few guys that are playing with a lot of confidence. [Rinne] has got a lot of confidence, Craig Smith, Mike Ribeiro, but [Forsberg] really seems to be dialed in right now. He's moving quickly, he's moving the puck quickly, getting his shot off quick and all of that is translating to offense."

Predators captain Shea Weber, who has missed the past three games with a lower-body injury, practiced Monday. His status for Tuesday is up in the air.

Tuesday’s game is the second of a three-game homestand for the Predators.

Injuries: D Shea Weber (lower body) is day to day. F Gabriel Bourque (undisclosed) and F Eric Nystrom (foot) are on injured reserve.
