The Dallas Stars are on a bit of a roll as they hit the quarter-mark of the shortened 2013 season. The Stars made it three straight wins with a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at American Airlines Center Friday night.
The Stars used a strong first period to build an early 2-0 lead, held off the Ducks in the second thanks to some stellar netminding from Kari Lehtonen and then put the clamps on defensively in the third, limiting the Ducks to just one shot on goal.
“I thought we played a pretty good team game tonight,” said Stars forward Jamie Benn. “We knew they were a good team and we were going to have some tough shifts, and we fought through it and got a big two points.”
The Stars came out flying in the game, outshooting the Ducks 8-1 over the first seven minutes of the game. But it was a couple penalties on Ducks forward Brad Staubitz that put the Stars on the power play, and allowed them to grab the early lead.
Staubitz picked up a roughing minor in the offensive zone at 8:11 of the first, and the Stars were on the scoreboard 37 seconds later when Trevor Daley scored off a blast from the point. It was Daley’s first goal and point of the season.
