Here are a couple quotes from the Dallas Stars after their losing streak hit six games with Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the New York Islanders at American Airlines Center.
Stars coach Lindy Ruff on Sunday’s game: "For me, we turned the puck over too many times. We gave them breakaways. Dan [Ellis] made probably three or four great saves to keep the score where it was at. I think it caught up to us. We played a very good first period, we started turning the puck over in the second period and our top guys turned it over on the entries. The guys that are getting anything done are the guys that are getting it low and making smarter plays. We turned too many over."
Forward Ray Whitney on how down the team is right now: “Well it’s down. We’re young and it’s hard to put youth behind you, certainly the way we’ve lost the last two. There’s only one way out of it, and that’s just with simple hard work and a commitment to playing the right way. As a group, we have to decide to do that. You can’t have half of your team doing it and half the team not doing it. Until you get that, you’re not going to have the success you want as a group. We’re going to have to evaluate this on Tuesday morning and change what we’re doing.”
Goaltender Dan Ellis on the team’s confidence right now: "You look at the history of most of these slumps and how they happen. When you're in your winning streak, there's a few things that are just creeping into your game. Then all of a sudden you lose, they sneak up on you and now you're in a slump. Then towards the end of your slump you get a couple of close games. That’s what we’ve had. We're right on the tail end of it. We're going to come out of it. It happens, we have to learn from it. Once we get through this one, we want to learn how to end it so it never gets to this point again.”
