Stars-Hurricanes Notes

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

Stars forward Antoine Roussel came into Thursday’s game ranked second in the NHL in penalty minutes with 138. He added 20 more in the game, including a five minute major for charging and a game misconduct after he ran into Carolina goaltender Anton Khudobin in the third period.

It happened as Roussel drove the Carolina net with the puck.

“I tried to get to the net, get position on the D and get a move going. I didn’t have time to do it. He (Carolina defenseman John-Michael Liles) pushed me into the goalie. I knew something was wrong,” said Roussel.

Khudobin was shaken up on the play, but stayed in the game.

“I haven’t looked at the replay. It was a pretty severe collision. I know he got bumped,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “I think he had his head down at the time, you’ve got to make an effort –even when you are bumped – and I know he got knocked off balance, you’ve got to try your best not to make contact. He was coming in full speed and he was thinking score. I don’t know if he knew the guy was there that was going to bump him.”

Roussel also picked up a fighting major as well after Carolina’s Ron Hainsey went after him for the hit on Khudobin.
