About the Stars

The Stars (16-16-3) underwent a roster overhaul Tuesday as forwards Jaromir Jagr, Derek Roy and Tomas Vincour were dealt in separate deals one day prior to the NHL trade deadline.

Although the Stars traded two top six forwards in Jagr and Roy, GM Joe Nieuwendyk said the Stars, currently three points out of a playoff spot, are not throwing in the towel on the season.

“Well, I think it’s an opportunity. I really do. This is by no means closing the door on this season. With 13 games to go, there’s 26 points on the table still,” Nieuwendyk said. “These young kids will want to show what they have. Sometimes when you have that type of attitude, a team can come closer. I expect we’ll play hard, we’ll challenge and get a good look at our young kids.”

Among those added to the Dallas roster on Tuesday was forward Lane MacDermid, acquired from Boston as part of the Jagr deal.

Dallas also recalled forwards Alex Chiasson, Matt Fraser, Colton Sceviour and Tom Wandell from the Texas Stars of the AHL.

Assigned to Texas were forwards Reilly Smith and Francis Wathier.

Defenseman Kevin Connauton, acquired from Vancouver in the Roy trade, and defenseman Cameron Gaunce, acquired from Colorado for Vincour, also were sent to Texas.

Wednesday’s game begins a three-game road trip for the Stars.

Injuries: C Vernon Fiddler (charley horse) and F Ryan Garbutt (hand) are doubtful.
