Stars Claim Brandon Segal Off Waivers From LA

Frisco, Tex. – The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has claimed right wing Brandon Segal off NHL waivers from the Los Angeles Kings. Segal has been added to Dallas’ NHL roster. The team also announced that it has placed Steve Ott on Injured Reserve, retroactive to Feb. 6.

Segal, 26, has appeared in 25 games for the Kings this season (27 NHL games in his career), scoring one goal and one assist with 20 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 209-pound right wing scored his first NHL goal on Jan. 9 vs. St. Louis in his 14th NHL game. Segal played in 21 games with Manchester (AHL) at the beginning of the season, scoring six goals and eight assists. A right-handed shot, he was originally drafted by Nashville in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Segal made his NHL debut last spring with two games as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. He also played in 69 games last season with Norfolk (AHL), scoring 26 goals and 26 assists, and was named to the 2009 Canadian AHL All-Star Team.

Ott, 27, has appeared in 52 games this season, scoring 11 goals and 12 assists with 100 penalty minutes. He underwent surgery on Monday for an emergency appendectomy and is expected to be out until after the Olympic Break. Ott has played in 389 career NHL games, scoring 51 goals and 85 assists with 778 penalty minutes.
