Stars-Blackhawks Notes

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

With the two goals scored in Tuesday’s game against Chicago, the Stars have now scored just 12 goals over the last six games. During that six game stretch they’ve scored two goals or fewer in five of the six games.

The chances have been there over the last six games, but the finish hasn’t

“You have to capitalize on your chances,” Stars captain Jamie Benn said after the 4-2 loss to Chicago. “You don’t want to be looking back in games like this, especially the one-goal games where maybe you think you should have had that one. At least we’re getting the chances, but it is crunch time now and we’ve got to find a way to bury those.”

Strong game for Garbutt

Stars forward Ryan Garbutt had a strong game Tuesday night, scoring both Dallas goals and registering six shots on goal.

“I felt he was our best player tonight for sure,” said Stars captain Jamie Benn.

Garbutt played on various lines in the game, including one with Shawn Horcoff and Dustin Jeffrey and that line was one that Stars coach Lindy Ruff singled out for praise after the game.

“I think when you look at the game, it sums up where your energy level is. Horcoff, Jeffrey and Garbutt were the line that was getting the most done,” Ruff said.

The Stars coach also liked the performance of goaltender Kari Lehtonen, who stopped 38 of 41 shots.

“I thought he played very well. I thought he played very well for us,” Ruff said. “I thought Jeffrey, Garbutt, Horcoff, Lehts. After that it was pretty tough.”
