Stars-Avalanche Notes

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

While the Dallas Stars were playing in Denver Tuesday night, defenseman Aaron Rome was getting in his first game of the season with Texas of the AHL. Rome is coming off two offseason hip surgeries and the Stars need him to get into game shape.

“We’re looking at how he is going to play down there,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “The game conditioning is very important. Doing the one-on-one conditioning or with the coaches is one thing, but playing in a game, the quick reactions, the reactions to real tight situations is important. It’s better to get that down there than here. We know what he is. He’s a good defender, he’s a big body that is tough to play against and we want him to find his game before he gets back.”

Rome, who was sent to Texas on Monday on a conditioning assignment, had no points, two shots on goal, a minus-one rating and four penalty minutes in Texas’ 2-1 overtime loss at Oklahoma City. He was paired with Dallas prospect Jamie Oleksiak in the game.

“Those mistakes can’t be made. They just can’t be. I’ve told them that those are unacceptable.”
