Dallas Stars' General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has activated defenseman Teppo Numminen and right wing Aaron Downey from the National Hockey League's injured reserve list and placed goaltender Ron Tugnutt on injured reserve retro-active to Dec. 14.
Numminen, 35, has missed the past 12 games from Nov. 21-Dec. 14 with a broken foot suffered on Nov. 19 vs. Anaheim. The 6-2, 198-pound defensemen has appeared in 17 games with Dallas this season, posting six assists. A three-time NHL All-Star (1999, 2000, 2001), Numminen holds the Phoenix/Winnipeg franchise records for goals, assists and points by a defensemen. He appeared in his first 15 NHL seasons with the Phoenix/Winnipeg organization before being acquired by Dallas in a three-way trade on July 22, 2003.
Downey, 29, has missed the past 16 games from Nov. 12-Dec. 14 with a hairline fracture in his hip. The 6-1, 216-pound right wing has played in eight games with Dallas this season, registering one assist on Oct. 25 at Columbus.
Tugnutt, 36, suffered a knee sprain in a recent practice and is day-to-day with the injury. In four games this season with Dallas, he has posted a 1-2-0 record with a 2.11 goals-against-average and a .908 save percentage. The 5-11, 165-pound goaltender was acquired by Dallas from Columbus with a second round pick in exchange for a first round pick on June 18, 2002.
Numminen is expected to play tonight vs. Vancouver, while Downey will be a game-time decision
