Stars Acquire RW Mike Siklenka from Philadelphia

FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manger Doug Armstrong announced today that the NHL club has acquired right wing Mike Siklenka from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for left wing Steve Gainey. Siklenka has been assigned to the Utah Grizzlies, Dallas' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Siklenka, 25, has played in 18 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL) this season, scoring 1-5-6 points with 29 penalty minutes. He has played in one career contest for the Flyers, making his NHL debut on Jan. 28, 2003 vs. Tampa Bay. The 6-4, 225-pound right wing was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the fifth round (118th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Gainey, 25, has appeared in 45 games for Utah this season, scoring 7-8-15 points with 14 penalty minutes. He has played in 13 career NHL games with the Stars (0-1-1 pt.), including seven contests this season from Nov. 19-30 in which he went scoreless. Gainey was the Stars' third round selection (77th overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Siklenka is expected to join the Grizzlies immediately.

The Dallas Stars continue a three-game road trip in Anaheim tonight (7 PM CT, kdfi 27) before traveling to Los Angeles to take on the Kings on Wednesday (9:30 Pm CT, FSN). Dallas hosts the Colorado Avalanche this Friday at American Airlines Center (7:30 PM, kdfi 27), with good tickets still available.
