Dallas Stars General Manger Doug Armstrong announced today that the NHL club has acquired defenseman Jon Klemm and a fourth round selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Stephane Robidas and a second round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Klemm, 33, is currently playing in his ninth NHL season. He has appeared in 19 games for Chicago this season, scoring 0-1-1 point with 20 penalty minutes and a team-leading +6 rating. The 6-2, 200-pound Klemm has been an alternate captain for the Blackhawks each of the last three seasons, signing as a free agent on July 1, 2001.

A veteran of 579 NHL games (35-87-122 points, 318 PIM), Klemm has won two Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche (1996, 2001).

"Jon Klemm is a veteran player who we feel will help solidify our defensive corps," said Armstrong. "He has strong leadership qualities and adds size and determination to our team."

Robidas, 26, has appeared in 14 games with Dallas this season, scoring 1-0-1 point with eight penalty minutes. He was originally acquired from Atlanta in exchange for future considerations on October 4, 2002.
