DALLAS STARS ACQUIRE HUTCHINSON FROM TAMPA BAY
Stars Send Finnish Winger Tukonen to Lightning
FRISCO, Tex. – The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Andrew Hutchinson from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for right wing Lauri Tukonen, who is currently playing for Lukko Rauma in the Finnish Elite League. Hutchinson is expected to join the Stars in time for their upcoming two-game road trip to Calgary and Edmonton.

Hutchinson, 28, has gone scoreless in two games with Tampa Bay this season. In 20 games with Norfolk (AHL) thus far in 2008-09, he has posted a goal and 13 assists for 14 points, tied for the team lead in assists and tops among Admirals defenseman in scoring.
The native of Evanston, Ill., has skated in 97 career NHL games with Nashville, Carolina and Tampa Bay, collecting 10 goals and 23 assists for 33 points with 52 PIM. A member of Carolina’s 2006 Stanley Cup championship club, his most prolific NHL season came in 2006-07, when he earned 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) and 30 penalty minutes for the Hurricanes.
The 6-2, 206-pound defenseman served as captain for Hartford (AHL) in 2007-08, posting 18 goals and 46 assists for 64 points. He placed second on the club in assists and third in points, while being named to the AHL First All-Star Team and earning the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s Most Outstanding Defenseman.
Originally drafted by Nashville in the second round (No. 54 overall) of the 1999 Entry Draft, Hutchinson skated in 159 games at Michigan State from 1998-2002, collecting 19 goals and 59 assists for 78 points. He was named the CCHA’s Best Defenseman in 2001 and was a Second-Team All-American after his senior season. He represented the United States at the 2007 World Championships in Russia, recording four points (3 goals, 1 assist) in seven games.
