ALL-TIME SERIES RESULTS vs. WINNIPEG JETS:
This Season: 0-0-03/14/12 – @ WinnipegFIVE THINGS TO WATCH:1.
The Dallas Stars play their first and only game of the season against the Winnipeg Jets (formerly Atlanta Thrashers) on Wednesday night. This will be Dallas’ first game in Winnipeg since April 3, 1996 (1-3 L) – after that, the team moved to Phoenix and are now called the Coyotes. It is important to note that the franchise records that Dallas had against the Atlanta Thrashers have now transferred over to the new Winnipeg Jets team (not to be confused with the Winnipeg Jets that moved to Phoenix in 1996).
The Stars have an 11-1-1 all-time record against the Jets/Thrashers franchise and are undefeated against them in regulation (5-0-1) in road games. In fact, the Stars have a higher points percentage against the Jets (.885) than against any other team in the NHL.
Dallas will play their second-to-last back-to-back set of games on Tuesday (Minnesota) and Wednesday (Winnipeg). They have a 6-4-2 record on the first day and a 1-9-2 record on the second day.
The Stars have scored four-or-more goals against the Jets/Thrashers in six of their 13 meetings and have outscored them 45-28 overall.
Dallas’ next point in the standings guarantees that their season will finish with a .500 record for the 15th consecutive season. Only the Detroit Red Wings have a longer such streak (20 seasons). Additionally, finishing above .500 will make Joe Nieuwendyk only the 32nd general manager in NHL history to guide his team to a winning season in his first three full seasons. 68% of the first 31 GM’s eventually guided their team to the Stanley Cup Finals (stats since NHL took control of Stanley Cup in 1927-28) (Source: www.nhlgms.com
