The Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators meet for the third time of the season on Sunday night. Dallas leads the season series with a 2-0-0 record and are looking for three wins in a single season against Nashville for the first time since the 2006-07 season (3-1-0). Dallas has won four of the last five games overall against Nashville (4-1-0).
Entering Saturday’s game against the Phoenix Coyotes, the Stars find themselves one win shy of registering a 30-win campaign for the 15th consecutive season. It is the fifth longest current streak in the NHL with Detroit (21), Colorado (18), New Jersey (16) and Toronto (15) all having longer streaks than Dallas.
Dallas has drastically cut down on penalties from the beginning of the season. In their first 29 games of the season, the Stars found themselves shorthanded over three times in a game on 20 separate occasions. In the last 28 games however, the opposition has earned over three power plays in a game just nine times.
The Stars will play their 11th back-to-back set on Saturday (at Phoenix) and Sunday (vs. Nashville). The club has an overall record of 5-12-2 with a 5-4-1 record on the first day, and a 0-8-2 record on the second day.
The Stars enter Saturday’s game against Phoenix just three wins shy of reaching 1,500 all-time franchise wins. When they win no. 1, 500, the Stars will be the tenth team in NHL history to accomplish that feat and will be the only club to do so in two separate cities (Dallas, Minneapolis).
