FIVE THINGS TO WATCH:

1. The Dallas Stars and New York Islanders meet for their first of two contests this season. The Stars won the lone meeting between these two clubs last season by a score of 5-4 (SOW). Dallas has won four consecutive games against New York and have not lost against them since Nov. 15, 2006 when they shutout the Stars 3-0 in Dallas.

2.  Dallas has the fifth-best winning percentage in the NHL this season when they allow the first goal of the game (6-6-0, .500). The New York Islanders are 29th with a 1-10-2 record (.077).

3. Saturday night’s contest between the Stars and Islanders features two of the top-five highest-scoring third year players in the NHL. John Tavares is third with 137 points (61 goals, 76 assists) in his first three seasons, while Jamie Benn ranks fourth with 120 points (50 goals, 70 assists).

4. The New York Islanders are one of four NHL clubs that the Stars franchise has a sub-.500 home record against. As the Minnesota North Stars, they earned a 14-19-5 record against the Islanders at home and have a 6-2-4 record against them since moving to Texas.

5. The Dallas Stars and New York Islanders are two of the final four NHL clubs that have not allowed a shorthanded goal this season. The last time the Stars allowed a shorthanded goal was April 8, 2011 at Colorado (Yip). Through 25 games last season, Dallas allowed three shorthanded goals.

WHO TO WATCH:

ERIC NYSTROM has scored four of Dallas’ last nine goals. As of Friday, he had the fourth-highest shooting percentage in the NHL converting on nine of 38 shots (23.7%). Nystrom currently leads the Stars with nine even-strength goals.
 
RADEK DVORAK
has scored more goals against the Islanders than any other club in his career (15 goals in 51 games played).
 
ANDREW RAYCROFT
has earned an 9-2-0 record with a .941 SV% and a 1.88 GAA since signing with Dallas in starts that have not occurred on the second night of a back-to-back game.
