The first of the luncheons in the 2011 Dallas Stars Sigel's Luncheon series took place on Thursday, January 13th, at Sambuca in Uptown, and it was a huge success! Guests included Head Coach Marc Crawford and Dallas Stars players Brad Richards, Jamie Benn
, and Mark Fistric
, who were fresh off of a 3-2 victory over Edmonton . Daryl Reaugh served as the event's emcee, and as always, provided the audience with laughs throughout the program.
Fans were greeted upon arrival and shown to their seats, while Razor welcomed everybody to the luncheon, introduced the Dallas Stars Executives that were present, and recognized the guests of honor who were seated at various tables with the fans. Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Stars, Geoff Moore, was then introduced to give the fans an update on the state of the team. He shared the latest good news regarding improved ticket sales, website hits, and overall interest in the team as they continue to win and remain perched atop the Pacific Division.
Meanwhile, salads were served and fans got to choose between a flat iron steak, roasted chicken, and salmon dishes for the main course. After they had some time to eat and visit, the players and Coach Crawford were called to the stage for the highly anticipated Q&A session. Coach Crawford briefly introduced the three players, sharing with the fans many details on why he believes each of them are successful. Razor then opened the floor up to the audience, who had some very good questions prepared for the players. The All Star game was a popular topic of conversation, since one of the recently selected NHL All Stars, Brad Richards, was on the panel.
One of the questions asked to all three of the players elicited some laughs, as a fan asked, "If you were the captain of the Western Conference All- Star Team, who would you select for your team?" Brad quickly replied, "Loui Eriksson
," and the other two didn't skip a beat as they answered, "Brad!" Smart decision as they were sitting only a few feet away from him.
The questions continued, as Coach Crawford and each player weighed in on various topics, such as the difference in the team this year on and off the ice, Jamie Benn
's recently aggressive play, and the players' nicknames in "the room." Coach Crawford and the three players were very candid with their answers and it sure made for an entertaining lunch hour!
At the conclusion of the question and answer session, dessert was served and raffle prizes were drawn. Three lucky winners walked away with an autographed Fistric jersey, autographed Jamie Benn
stick, or a game-used, autographed Brad Richards stick. Finally, the event came to a close, but the players chose to stick around for a bit to meet some of their fans, take pictures, and sign autographs.
The players said that they were happy to be a part of this event, and say that it always helps things when the team is performing well on the ice.
"It's a lot more fun to do these kinds of things when the team is winning. We love answering questions from the fans when the team is doing well! It is great to get in the community as often as possible, since we have a very busy season. We love getting the chance to come out and meet some of our biggest sponsors and fans at events like this." said Stars Center and Alternate Captain, Brad Richards.
Defenseman Mark Fistric
added, "I had a lot of fun! The fans asked some really good questions, everybody seemed to be having fun, and the food was great!"
All proceeds from the Luncheon Series benefit the Dallas Stars Foundation. The Foundation's Executive Director, Lora Farris, says she feels the event was a great success and that the Foundation is happy to host them again after a couple years off.
