Schedule Matters

by Dallas Stars Staff / Dallas Stars

It may be July but it is an important time for NHL fans – the time when the league’s pre-season and regular season schedules come out and calendars are consulted.

The NHL’s full regular season schedule (including the Stars’) will be released Thursday. While we cannot post the full schedule until then, we’ve been given the OK to “leak” a couple of highlights of the regular season schedule to whet your appetite.

The new schedule matrix ensures more games between the Eastern and Western Conferences, with Dallas playing 18 games vs. the East (up from just 10 in each of the last three seasons). Nine of the games vs. the East will be at American Airlines Center (up from five in each of the last three campaigns).

Highlights of the upcoming Stars regular season schedule include three home-and-home matchups with the Eastern Conference. Dallas will play the following three teams at home and on the road:
  • The New Jersey Devils (in Dallas for the traditional New Year’s Eve game on December 31).
  • The New York Rangers (in Dallas on Friday, February 6).
  • The Florida Panthers (in Dallas on Saturday, March 28).

The Stars will open the regular season at home, hosting the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday, October 10.

We know, we know – you want more. Your biggest questions thrown our way will be answered soon (like, “Are Crosby and Ovechkin’s respective clubs coming to Dallas this season?). Let’s put it to you this way – you’ll be pleased when you find out the answers.

The Stars announced their 2008 pre-season schedule today, with the club hosting four pre-season games at American Airlines Center in Dallas and playing a total of seven pre-season contests.

Stars training camp will open on Friday, September 19, with most practice sessions taking place in Frisco. Dallas will begin its seven-game pre-season schedule in St. Louis vs. the Blues at the Scottrade Center on Tuesday, September 23.

Dallas will play its first home pre-season game against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, September 25. The Stars will also host the Blues on Saturday, September 27; the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, October 2; and the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, October 5.
