Robertson Cup Coming to Frisco
The Robertson Cup is awarded annually to the National Champion of the North American Hockey League. This year, the tournament will be taking place from May 3rd- 8th, at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco. In addition to serving as the Stars practice facility, the 4,000-seat arena is also home to the NAHL’s Texas Tornado.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting this prestigious event,” said Tornado Vice-President Ben Weber. “The Robertson Cup is the crown jewel of the NAHL season and we’re happy to be playing a big part in that. It also gives the great hockey fans of the Metroplex the chance to see some of the best junior hockey players in the entire country. ”
As the host team, the Tornado already have their ticket to the Robertson Cup punched and now await the completion of the divisional playoffs, which will determine what other teams will play for the Robertson Cup. After the winners of each of the five divisions are decided, the six-team field will be set. After three days of pool play from May 3rd-5th, four teams will advance to the semifinal round. Both of those games are on Monday, May 7th while the Robertson Cup championship game is set for Tuesday, May 8th at 7:30 p.m.

Since their inception in 1999, the Tornado have set the standard for excellence for hockey for players ages 21 and under in the United States. Besides their three straight National Championships from 2004-2006, the Tornado have won seven NAHL Regular Season Division titles and had seven-straight 40+ win seasons from 1999-2007. Since 1999, the Tornado have developed and moved on over 120 players onto NHL, NCAA and professional teams.
