The Stars recent heroics have warmed my cockles and made me nostalgic for a certain Junior hockey team's halcyon days anthem.
The team: The Kamloops Blazers, of course.
The anthem: Iconic Canadian rock band BTO's hit 'Takin' Care of Business'.
Back in the late 80's and 90's that song was synonymous with the Blazers, blaring over the speakers after every goal scored as they destroyed opponents en route to WHL Championships and Memorial Cups. Olaf Kolzig, then Tri-City Americans netminder, currently the Washington Capitals goalie coach, famously quipped that he had a chance to memorize "every *%#&ing lyric to that *%#&ing song" following yet another lopsided loss in Kamloops (I paraphrase).
Well, some of those lyrics are thunderingly apropos for what this current Dallas Stars team has been doing lately.
Hot off a 3-0 road trip on which every game went past 60 minutes, and having gone to overtime in 5 of their last 7 games, the Stars have been:
Takin care of business everyday
Takin care of business every way
I've been takin care of business, it's all mine
Takin care of business and working overtime
Only the Vancouver Canucks have gone to OT more.
Randy Bachman would be impressed.
Not fragile indeed!
