Brenden Morrow met with the media in Pittsburgh today to talk about being traded to the Penguins from the Dallas Stars. Here are a few quotes.
On the trade
“A lot of emotions, I spent a lot of time, 14 years in Dallas. I think I kind of knew a change was going to happen, you hear the rumors. I didn’t hear much of Pittsburgh. I had that conversation with Joe Nieuwendyk and he brought this team forward. It made the decision pretty easy. I’m very excited.”
On where he sees himself fitting with Pittsburgh and how did the conversation go with Penguins GM Ray Shero concerning the no-trade clause
“He just made me feel appreciated. I have no idea what part, I just don’t want to screw it up. Right now they are going pretty good. That’s up to coach Dan Bylsma and where ever he sees a good fit. I’ve been on teams before, the Olympics, where you find a role and do whatever it takes. I want to win a Cup and I am going to do whatever role I need to do to help this team do that.”
On the theory that he could get a boost from joining a Cup contender
“I hope that is the case. There’s a lot of youth, a lot of energy on this team. Great players, I know four or five of them from having played with them, and others from competing against them and not enjoying that. It’s a great group. I spent a lot of time with one team, got very comfortable there and I am looking forward to a new challenge. If I get a boost from a new team, and I am sure I am going to, with the skill this team has – it has two of the best players in the world – it is going to make it very easy to play.”
