The Dallas Stars won for the sixth time in their last seven games, beating the Vancouver Canucks, 5-1, at American Airlines Center Thursday night. The Stars broke a 1-1 tie with three goals in the first half of the third period to take control of the game. Vernon Fiddler, Cody Eakin, Jamie Benn, Ray Whitney and Erik Cole scored goals for the Stars. Kari Lehtonen stopped 37 of 38 shots.
Stars take control in third period
The Stars turned the a 1-1 game into a 4-1 game by rattling off three goals in 5:27 early in the third period. Cody Eakin got things started, scoring on a two-on-one at the 1:24 mark to put the Stars up 2-1. Jamie Benn and Ray Whitney followed with goals to break the game open for the Stars.
Lehtonen sharp in return
Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen was sharp in his return from a groin injury, stopping 37 of 38 shots. Lehtonen, who missed the last three games, was particularly sharp in the first two periods, stopping 26 of 27 shots.
