The Dallas Stars fell to 2-2-0 on their five-game homestand, losing 3-2 to the Los Angeles Kings Sunday evening at American Airlines Center. The game was tied 1-1 going into the third period, but the Kings scored two goals 1:09 apart to take 3-1 lead in the game. Jamie Benn and Ray Whitney scored goals for the Stars. Kari Lehtonen stopped 37 of 40 shots. The Stars, who fell to 16-15-3, are now two points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The Kings struck just 25 seconds into the game when Jeff Carter scored off a backhand shot from the left faceoff circle that deflected off Stars defenseman Brenden Dillon and past goaltender Kari Lehtonen.
The Kings went on the game’s first power play with 6:05 left in the period, but the Stars were able to kill it off to keep it a 1-0 game.
The Stars went on their first power play with 2:52 remaining in the period, but couldn’t cash in.
The Kings ended up with a 13-4 shots advantage through the first 20 minutes.
