The European leagues, Canadian juniors and colleges are heading into winter break, and the 2016 World Junior Championship gets underway this weekend. Here’s an update on how Dallas Stars prospects playing in Europe, juniors and colleges fared over the past week.

*RW Denis Gurianov (first round/2015) is with the Russian national junior team, which is holding a selection camp to finalize its roster for the 2016 World Junior Championship, which begins Dec. 26 in Finland. Gurianov is one of 29 players vying for a spot on the roster. A final decision is expected to come after Russia’s exhibition game with Denmark on Dec. 24. Gurianov had no points in an exhibition game between Russia’s U20 team and Spartak Moscow of the KHL. Gurianov skated on the third line.

*LW Roope Hintz (second round/2015) is taking part in Finland’s selection camp for the World Junior Championship. Hintz was the captain of the Finnish squad as it played its first World Juniors exhibition game, falling to Switzerland, 4-3, on Monday. Hintz played on Finland’s top line and picked up one assist in the game.

*D Aleksi Makela (seventh round/2013) did not pick up any points in two games with Ilves in Finland’s top league. Makela has registered one assist in 20 games.

*D Troy Vance (fifth round/2011) recorded two assists in two games for Assat in Finland’s top league, giving him 11 assists in 32 games this season.

*G Markus Ruusu (sixth round/2015) played in one game this week, logging 28:15 of relief time and stopping 15 of 18 shots in a 7-0 loss for JYP-Akatemia in Finland’s second highest league.

*D Miro Karjalainen (fifth round/2014) did not play over the past week.

*G Henri Kiviaho (fifth round/2012) did not play over the past week.

*D John Nyberg (sixth round/2014) had no points in one game in Sweden’s second highest league over the past week. Nyberg has six points (one goal, five assists) in 33 games.

*D Niklas Hansson (third round/2013) and HV 71 of the Swedish Hockey League did not have any games last week as the SHL started its winter break.

*LW Brett Pollock (second round/2014) registered three points (two goals, one assist) in Edmonton’s 5-2 win over Kootenay Saturday and was named the game’s number one star. Pollock has 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists) in 36 games and leads the Oil Kings in points and assists.

*D Chris Martenet (fourth round/2015) recorded one assist and a plus-two rating in three games for London. Martenet has seven assists and a plus-28 rating in 33 games, ranking third in the OHL in plus/minus rating.

*D Alex Peters (third round/2014) picked up one assist in three games for Flint over the past week. Peters has six points (one goal, five assists) in 23 games.

*D Patrick Sanvido (seventh round/2014) had no points and a plus-three rating in two games for Windsor. Sanvido has five points (one goal, four assists) and a plus-ten rating in 15 games.

*D Aaron Haydon (sixth round/2014) did not register any points and had a plus-one rating for Niagara last week. Haydon has four points (one goal, three assists) and a plus-five rating in 30 games.

*G Brent Moran (fourth round/2014) played two games for Flint over the past week. He played the first period in an 8-4 loss to Saginaw on Wednesday, giving up four goals on 13 shots. He played a total of 16 minutes Friday against Oshawa, stopping all 13 shots he faced before leaving the game due to injury. Moran is 9-9-1 this season in the OHL with a 3.19 goals-against average and .888 save percentage.

*D Michael Prapavessis (fourth round/2014) and D Joseph Cecconi (fifth round/2015) did not play this week as their schools are on winter break. Prapavessis has ten points (one goal, nine assists) in 19 games with RPI. Cecconi has four assists in 15 games with Michigan.
