Prospect Report

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

Preliminary rosters for the 2016 World Junior Championship are starting to trickle out and on Monday Stars forward prospect Roope Hintz was named to Finland’s selection camp roster.

Hintz is no surprise. The Dallas second-round pick in 2015 played at last year’s tournament, recording two assists in five games for Finland.

Russia hasn’t released its preliminary roster yet but Denis Gurianov, the Dallas first-round pick in 2015, is expected to be on the roster.

The 2016 World Junior Championship will be played in Finland from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.

Stars goaltending prospect Brent Moran was part of a major trade in the Ontario Hockey League Sunday. The Niagara IceDogs sent Moran and five draft picks to the Flint Firebirds in exchange for goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic and defenseman Josh Wesley.

Moran, a fourth-round pick (115th overall) in 2014, is 9-7-1 this season with a 3.02 goals-against average and .890 save percentage.

Moran now will be teammates with fellow Stars prospect Alex Peters, who is the captain of the Flint Firebirds.
