Prospect Report

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

Stars defense prospect Esa Lindell (third round/2012) wrapped up his impressive season in Finland this past week. Lindell scored two goals in his final two regular season games, finishing the season with 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists) in 57 games for Assat in Finland’s top league.

The 20-year-old tied for the scoring lead among all league defensemen and was the top scoring defensemen based on points per game. He led all players in the league in average ice time at 24:56 per game.

Lindell had no points in two games as Assat lost its first-round playoff series to SaiPa.

What’s next for Lindell is still up in the air. There is a chance he could spend some time with the Texas Stars of the AHL. But Dallas is waiting to hear about the possibility of an assignment to the AHL for Lindell, who also is under consideration to play for Finland at the upcoming World Championship.

*D Ludwig Bystrom (second round/2012) headed to Texas Stars after his season concluded in Sweden. Bystrom played 38 games with Farjestad in the Swedish Hockey League, registering five points (one goal, four assists). The 20-year-old Bystrom, a slick skating and puck moving defenseman, also played five games in Sweden’s second highest league, picking up one assist in five games with Timra. Bystrom’s season came to an end when Farjestad lost a best-of-three series to get into the SHL playoffs.
