Stars prospect Jason Dickinson survived the first round of cuts at Canada’s selection camp for the World Junior Championship. Dickinson is one of 15 forwards still left on the roster. More cuts are expected later this week for Canada, which is expected to carry 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
Stars forward prospect Remi Elie was among the five players – three forwards and two defensemen – cut from the camp on Sunday.
The World Junior Championship gets underway Dec. 26 in Toronto and Montreal. Stars prospects Julius Honka and Aleksi Makela are on Finland’s preliminary roster for the tournament.
Here’s an update on how Dallas Stars prospects playing in juniors, the European leagues and U.S. colleges fared over the past week.
Western Hockey League
*LW Cole Ully (fifth round/2013) registered four points (three goals, one assist) in four games for Kamloops over the past week. Ully has 46 points (16 goals, 30 assists) in 33 games and ranks sixth in the WHL in scoring.
*LW Brett Pollock (second round/2014) picked up one assist in two games for Edmonton. Pollock leads the Oil Kings in scoring with 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists) in 32 games.
Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
*G Philippe Desrosiers (second round/2013) won his only start over the past week, stopping 30 of 33 shots in Rimouski’s 6-3 win over Gatineau. Desrosiers also stopped all seven shots he faced in 17 minutes of relief work on Sunday. Desrosiers is 14-6-1 and ranks third in the QMJHL with a 2.62 goals against average.
Ontario Hockey League
*D Aaron Haydon (sixth round/2014) scored two goals and added one assist in three games for Niagara over the past week. Haydon has 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in 31 games.
*G Brent Moran (fourth round/2014) won both his appearances last week for Niagara. He stopped all 16 shots he faced in a relief appearance as Niagara rallied from a 4-2 deficit to defeat Peterborough, 7-4. He stopped 33 of 36 shots in a 5-3 win over Oshawa. Moran is 6-15-0 on the season with a 3.19 goals against average and .903 save percentage.
*D Patrick Sanvido (seventh round/2014) had no points in three games for Windsor over the past week. Sanvido has four assists in 30 games.
*C Jason Dickinson (first round/2013) and LW Remi Elie (second round/2013) did not play last week. Both were at Canada’s World Juniors selection camp in Toronto.
*D Alex Peters (third round/2014) is out with a knee injury.
United States Hockey League
*RW Matej Paulovic (fifth round/2013) is on a roll in the USHL. Paulovic had five assists in two games for Muskegon over the past week, giving him 11 points (two goals, nine assists) over his past four games. Paulovic is tied for fifth in the USHL in scoring with 27 points (nine goals, 18 assists) in 25 games.
*D Esa Lindell (third round/2012) had two assists in two games for Assat in Finland’s top league. Lindell has 13 points (4 goals, nine assists) in 27 games and leads the league in ice time at 25:14 per game.
*D Aleksi Makela (seventh round/2013) didn’t register any points in two games played for Ilves in Finland’s top league. Makela has five assists in 18 games.
*D Miro Karjalainen (fifth round/2014) did not play last week.
*D Ludwig Bystrom (second round/2012) played one game for Farjestad in the Swedish Hockey League and had no points. Bystrom has four points (one goal, three assists) in 20 games for Farjestad.
*D Niklas Hansson (third round/2013 registered one assist in two games for Rogle in Sweden’s second highest league. Hansson has 15 points (two goals, 13 assists) in 32 games.
*LW Emil Molin (fourth round/2011) had no points in two games for Rogle. Molin has five assists in 31 games.
*D John Nyberg (sixth round/2014) scored one in two games for Frolunda in junior hockey. Nyberg has 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 17 junior games. He played one game for Oskarshamn in Sweden’s second highest league and did not register a point.
*D Dmitry Sinitsyn (seventh round/2012) did not play last week. The Dynamo Moscow official site indicates that Sinitsyn is out due to injury and is expected to return in early January.
*C Devin Shore (second round/2012) registered four assists in two games for the University of Maine over the weekend. Shore had three assists in Maine’s 5-2 victory over New Hampshire on Friday. Shore has 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 18 games.
*D Michael Prapavessis (fourth round/2014) did not factor in the scoring in RPI’s one game over the weekend. Prapavessis has three assists in 19 games.
