While Esa Lindell and Radek Faksa continued to play at the World Junior Championship over the past week, other Stars prospects were in action in juniors, college and in the European leagues. Here are some of the highlights.
*LW Remi Elie (second round/2013) registered 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists In Belleville’s 3-1 win over Windsor in the Ontario Hockey League on Saturday. Ellie has 16 points (7 goals, 9 assists) in his last 7 games, and leads the Bulls in scoring with 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists) in 32 games.
*LW/C Jason Dickinson (first round/2013) picked up 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) in 4 games for Guelph of the OHL over the past week. Dickinson has 42 points (17 goals, 25 assists) in 40 games.
*C Gemel Smith (fourth round/2012) had 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 3 games for Owen Sound of the OHL. Smith has 48 points (26 goals, 22 assists) in 40 games, and ranks 6th in the OHL in goal scoring.
*LW Nick Paul (fourth round/2013) scored two goals in four games for North Bay of the OHL. Paul has 15 goals in 40 games.
*RW Cody Payne (trade acquisition/2013) was suspended three games by the OHL for leaving the bench and getting in a fight in Saginaw’s game against Windsor on Tuesday. It happened in Payne’s first game back from another three-game suspension. Payne is eligible to return on January 10.
*RW Branden Troock (fifth round/2012) scored two goals in three games for Seattle of the Western Hockey League, but missed Sunday’s game due to an injury suffered Saturday night in Edmonton. Troock has 44 points (20 goals, 24 assists) in 39 games, and ranks second on Seattle in both goals and points.
*LW Cole Ully (fifth round/2013) registered 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) and a plus-4 rating in 3 games for Kamloops of the WHL over the past week. Ully has 43 points (18 goals, 25 assists) in 39 games and leads the Blazers in goals and points and is tied for the team lead in assists.
*C Mike Winther (second round/2012) was traded to the Calgary Hitmen from Prince Albert within the WHL last weekend. Winther remains out with an upper body injury.
*G Philippe Desrosiers (second round/2012) won his only start in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last week, stopping 35 of 36 shots in Rimouski’s 4-1 victory over Val-d’Or. Desrosiers is 13-10-7 and ranks 8th in the QMJHL with a 3.04 goals against average.
*LW Matej Paulovic (fifth round/2013) has begun playing for Muskegon of the United States Hockey League. Paulovic has 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) in 4 games. Paulovic started the season with Peterborough of the OHL, but was released earlier this season.
*D John Klingberg (fifth round/2010) scored his seventh goal of the season in Frolunda’s 3-2 loss to Farjestad in the Swedish Hockey League over the weekend. All seven of Klingberg’s goals this season have come on the power play. Klingberg has 15 points (7 goals, 8 assists) in 32 games.
*D Ludwig Bystrom (second round/2012) had no points in his one game played for Farjestad of the SHL. Bystrom has 9 points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 33 games, and leads all junior defensemen playing in the SHL in scoring.
*G Henri Kiviaho (fifth round/2012) made his fourth start of the season in Finland’s top league this past week, stopping 21 of 24 shots in KalPa’s 3-1 loss to JYP. Kiviaho is 1-3-0 with a 3.29 goals against average and .875 save percentage in Finland’s top league.
*C Devin Shore (second round/2012) ran his points streak to 10 games with one goal in the University of Maine’s 2-1 loss to Quinnipiac on Friday. Shore has 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) during the streak. For the season, he has 23 points (9 goals, 14 assists) in 19 games.
