by Travis Betts / Dallas Stars

We take another look at the Stars’ prospects in minor league, college, junior and European hockey leagues.

Texas Stars (AHL):
Climie

The Texas Stars played three games at home this past week, starting with a 4-2 win over the Rockford Icehogs on Friday. Matt Climie made 35 saves on 37 shots, stopping all 19 shots he faced in the second period. Francis Wathier, Dan Jancevski and Mathieu Beaudoin each scored goals for Texas.

On Saturday, Texas lost to Rockford 3-2, despite a third period comeback effort. The Stars fell behind early on, and faced a two-goal deficit twice. Garrett Stafford scored on the power play and Beaudoin scored his seventh goal in six games, while Perttu Lindgren and Ivan Vishnevskiy each picked up assists. Richard Bachman made 19 saves on 22 shots in the loss.

The Stars finished a four-game homestand Tuesday, losing to the Houston Aeros 5-2, in a game that saw only 32 total shots on goal. Maxime Fortunus and Wathier each scored for the Stars, while Climie made 13 saves on 17 shots.

The Stars travel to Houston to take on the Aeros Friday night before coming back to Cedar Park to host the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday. After that, the team will not have another game until Dec. 27, when they play at San Antonio.

Noteworthy:
Texas, at 19-8-4, sits first in the Western Conference and second in the league with 42 points. Their +21 goal differential is third in the AHL.

The games on Saturday and Tuesday marked the first time the Stars have lost back-to-back games this season. Texas was 10-0 following a loss, including three shutouts and only two one-goal games prior to Tuesday.

The Stars’ penalty kill has struggled recently, only killing off 57.1% (8/14) of their opponents’ man-advantages over the last four games. Texas is still seventh in the league with an 86.8% success rate on the penalty kill.

On Wednesday, the Stars reassigned defenseman Trevor Ludwig to the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL). Ludwig, 24, was recalled by Texas Dec. 5 when Luke Gazdic was sent to Idaho.

Idaho Steelheads (ECHL):
The Idaho Steelheads went 1-1-1 in their three-game series with the Ontario Reign last week. Idaho continued its six-game homestand Wednesday, beating Utah 5-1. The Steelheads are in first place in the National Conference and second in the league at 20-5-2 (42 points). Idaho opens a two-game series Friday against the Alaska Aces before going back on the road again after Christmas.
