Dan Ellis will get the start in goal and there will be no changes to the forward group or the defensemen when the Dallas Stars take on the Minnesota Wild tonight at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Stars coach Lindy Ruff said he saw no reason to bring fresh legs into the lineup on the second night of a back-to-back since the Stars have played just once in the previous six days, and they were able to balance out the ice time in last night’s win in Winnipeg.
“I really feel we should have fresh legs,” Ruff said. “We’ve played one game in the last six, seven days. We are getting into the grind and I am not worried about fresh legs because we used every line, every line was in double digits (as far as ice time). We didn’t have to overplay anybody. I think that can be our strength.”
That means forwards Chris Mueller and Lane MacDermid and defenseman Kevin Connauton will be healthy scratches tonight. Aaron Rome, who is traveling with the team and practicing, remains out with a hip injury.
Campbell recalled, Lehtonen day to day
The Stars recalled Jack Campbell from the Texas Stars of the AHL under emergency conditions Saturday. Campbell will back up Ellis Saturday night.
Kari Lehtonen is out with a lower body injury. Lehtonen left Friday night’s 4-1 victory at Winnipeg late in the second period. Lehtonen is officially listed as day to day.
“Jack will back up tonight and we’ll see where we are tomorrow,” Ruff said. “It’s encouraging that he could be back at practice.”
Asked to explain what happened on the play where Lehtonen was injured, Ruff didn’t reveal any details.
“Just a lower body injury,” Ruff said.
