Day 6 - February 16, 2017

9:56 a.m. - Downtown St. Paul, Minn. (7281)

Following breakfast and stopping for coffee, Brett Ritchie and Jason Spezza venture from the team hotel to Xcel Energy Center. On game day mornings, players have a pre-game meal before heading over to the arena for morning skate.

11:10 a.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn.

Adam Cracknell waits for the Zamboni to finish before hopping on the ice for morning skate. After the team meeting and video session at morning skate, Stars players lace up their skates and take to the ice for practice that usually lasts around 30 minutes.

 

11:21 a.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn. 

Dallas Morning News beat writer Mike Heika peers over the ledge at Xcel Energy Center, as Stars TV crew members Craig Ludwig, Mike Leary and Daryl Reaugh go over the plan for tonight's broadcast on FOX Sports Southwest. At these morning meetings, the TV crew decides what storylines to focus on for broadcast and the other details involved with a Stars telecast.

 

11:27 a.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn. 

Never lacking a smile, Devin Shore looks across the ice at his teammates. Against Central Division teams this season, Shore has recorded four goals and eight assists.

 

11:32 a.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn. 

The Stars work on faceoffs at morning skate.

John Klingberg removes his skates while sitting in his locker.

12:26 p.m. - Downtown St. Paul, Minn. 

Jordie Benn clowns around with Antoine Roussel on the way back from morning skate. Once the players return to the team hotel, they have a few hours in the afternoon to eat lunch, take a nap and pack their luggage for the flight immediately after the game.

3:43 p.m. - Downtown St. Paul - St. Paul, Minn. 

Before signing for a fan, Kari Lehtonen smiles at the camera. Outside of the team hotel in most cities, fans will gather hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite NHL players.

 

4:17 p.m. - Downtown St. Paul - St. Paul, Minn. 

Jordie Benn hands his luggage to the bus driver after checking out of the team hotel. Before heading to the game, players drop off their belongings and designate whether they are for carry on or under the plane. The majority of players choose to carry on all of their bags to ensure they can head home quickly upon landing.

 

5:49 p.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn. 

With many Stars players looking on, Cody Eakin lunges for the soccer ball during the team's pre-game warmup ritual. Because the different layout in each arena, the team has to hunt for an acceptable space to kick the soccer ball around at every rink.

 

7:23 p.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn. 

During the first period of Thursday's game against the Wild, Cody Eakin battles with Zach Parise to maintain control of the puck as he skates around the net. Eakin scored the lone goal in the game against the Wild, his second tally of the season.

 

7:34 p.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn. 

Curtis McKenzie and Patrick Eaves fight to gain position in front of the net.

 

8:18 p.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn. 

In the heat of the battle on the ice, John Klingberg shouts to his teammates on the other end of the ice.

 

1:37 a.m. - Love Field - Dallas, Texas 

The team arrives home after a six day road trip with stops in Nashville, Winnipeg and Minnesota. At the airport, the vehicles of the players and staff are parked on the tarmac. 

Day 5 - February 15, 2017

2:15 a.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn.

After the team plane lands at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, the Stars equipment and training staff heads to Xcel Energy Center to unpack all of the gear. As the players, coaches and support head to the team hotel, Equipment Manager Steve Sumner unpacks for Wednesday's practice.

2:18 a.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn.

In the late night hours, Strength and Rehabilitation Coach Brad Jellis helps set up the locker room. 

 

2:27 a.m. - Xcel Energy Center - St. Paul, Minn.

Equipment Assistant Ryan Martin takes out practice jerseys for the upcoming practice.

Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza ready their sticks prior to the morning skate. Spezza, who has missed the last five games due to injury, could make his return to the lineup tonight.

Day 3 - February 13, 2017

12:36 p.m. The Forks - Winnipeg, Manitoba

Following a grueling schedule of four games in six days, the team and staff had a scheduled day off in Winnipeg. Close to the team hotel in downtown, three generations of family took to the ice at The Forks to play a pickup hockey game on their lunch break. 

Day 2 - February 12, 2017

11:30 a.m. Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

Back with the team, Jason Spezza takes to the ice at Bridgestone Arena as he continues to ramp up his rehab. Due to the back-to-back games for both Dallas and Nashville, neither team participated in a full morning skate prior to tonight's game.

 

11:36 a.m. Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

Daniel Garcia, Massage Therapist, Brad Jellis, Strength and Rehabilitation Coach and Ryan Martin, Equipment Assistant, look on as Alex Hemsky and Spezza get worked out by the coaching staff.

The Predators are hosting the Centennial Fan Arena and Truck Tour this weekend which visited Dallas earlier this season as part of the League's 100-year celebration.

Prior to walking over to Bridgestone Arena, Dan Hamhuis and Patrick Eaves enjoy a pre-game snack provided by the team. Before each and every road game, the team is provided with both a pre-game meal during the lunch hour followed by a snack just before game time. 

2:40 p.m. - Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

Esa Lindell spends a moment reading over the scouting report on the Predators. Before each and every game, the coaching staff compiles a detailed report on the opposing team for players review. 

2:54 p.m. - Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

The pre-game warmup pucks for Sunday's game are neatly stacked on the Stars bench awaiting their big moment.

3:20 p.m. - Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

Jamie Benn and Predators captain Mike Fisher make a wish come true for a local fan who was a special guest of the Predators organization and the Make-A-Wish Foundation before the game. 

 

3:53 p.m. - Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

Two Stars fans show off their love of Victory Green before the game in enemy territory.

 

4:04 p.m. - Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

Patrick Sharp, John Klingberg, Radek Faksa and Esa Lindell look on as Jamie Oleksiak attempts to keep the ball in play under Bridgestone Arena. Many players choose to warmup before the game by participating in a soccer-inspired ritual. 

 

5:11 p.m. - Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

Just seconds into the divisional showdown, Cody Eakin and Ryan Johansen have an up close and personal moment on the ice. The first minute of the game on Sunday featured two fighting majors, one each from Cody Eakin and Radek Faksa.

 

6:15 p.m. - Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

In the heat of battle during a tense and chippy game, Sharp jostles with Nashville's Viktor Arvidsson.

 

6:26 p.m. - Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN

Stephen Johns lunges after a puck as he's hooked by former Dallas Star Vernon Fiddler. Fiddler was acquired last week via trade by Nashville from New Jersey.

 

8:15 p.m. - Nashville, TN

Daryl "Razor" Reaugh in the back of the media bus in the midst of another Emporium, his unfiltered take on each night's tilt.

Day 1 - February 11, 2017

Patrick Eaves looks on as Kari Lehtonen leads the team out of the Stars locker room prior to the game on Saturday afternoon against the Carolina Hurricanes. 

Stars fans celebrate the first period goal by Esa Lindell.

After tossing a signed puck to a lucky fan, Eaves leaves the ice after being named First Star of Game. The forward recorded two goals against the Hurricanes, setting a new single season career-high with 21 goals.

Head Equipment Manager Steve Sumner, who was honored prior to puck drop for working his 2,000th professional game on Thursday night, throws the first bags of the road trip.

Assistant Equipment Manager Dennis Soetaert drags a cart containing player gear and game sticks to the equipment truck minutes after the game ends. 

On this three-game road trip, the team will travel with approximately 3500 pounds of equipment consisting of 45 bags, 14 trunks and 148 sticks.

Following media availability and a quick shower after the game, Tyler Sequin and Adam Cracknell walk across the tarmac on their way to the Stars team plane at Love Field.

Jordie Benn ascends the jet bridge destined for Nashville.

After an hour and 40 minute flight, Lindell, Brett Ritchie, Stephen Johns and Devin Shore deplane in windy Nashville. 

 Curtis McKenzie checks his phone upon arrival at the team hotel in the Music City.
