Lehtonen Still out, Ruff Contemplates Changes on Defense

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen will miss his fifth straight game with a lower body injury when the Stars play at Anaheim tonight.

Whether Dan Ellis will get a fifth straight start or Jack Campbell will make his NHL debut is still not known. Stars coach Lindy Ruff wasn’t tipping his hand as far as who will start the game tonight.

“Kari won’t be in the lineup tonight,” Ruff said, “and now you’ve got it down to two.”

Stay tuned.

Ruff said he is contemplating a change on defense. He didn’t say who could come out, but Alex Goligoski has no points and a minus-seven rating in seven games this season. Sergei Gonchar has one assist and a minus-five rating in seven games.

“When I look at it, I’ve got all seven going for warm-up and I’ll make a decision after warm-up,” Ruff said.

If Ruff does make a change on defense it means that Kevin Connauton would come in and make his NHL debut.

“I know it will be his first NHL game, but I think he can handle it,” Ruff said.

The Stars, who played last night in Los Angeles, didn’t skate in Anaheim this morning.
