Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has activated right wing Jere Lehtinen from injured reserve and placed center Manny Malhotra on non-playing waivers. If Malhotra clears waivers on Friday he will be assigned to the Utah Grizzlies, the Stars primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Lehtinen, 30, has missed the past 16 games from Oct. 13-Nov. 15 with back spasms. The 6-0, 200-pound right wing has played in two games with the Stars this season, posting one assist on Oct. 8 vs. Anaheim.

A three-time Selke Trophy winner (2003, 1999, 1998), Lehtinen has appeared in 512 career games with the Stars, registering 144 goals and 172 assists for 316 points. A five-time 20-goal scorer, he netted a career-best 31 goals last season, leading the team in that category.

Malhotra, 23, has gone scoreless in nine games with the Stars this season after coming to Dallas in a trade with the New York Rangers on Mar. 12, 2002. In 59 games last season with Dallas, he collected three goals and seven assists for 10 points. The 6-2, 215-pound center produced his best offensive NHL season with the New York Rangers in 1998-99, when he tallied eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 73 contests.
