FRISCO, Texas- The National Hockey Leagueannounced today that Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nillhas received the 2022-23 Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award. The annual award is presented to recognize the work of the top general manager in the NHL.

In his 10th season as the club's general manager, Nill's Dallas Stars posted 108 points in the 2022-23 regular season with a record of 47-21-14, their highest point total since 2015-16. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the team advanced to the Western Conference Final for the second time in the last four seasons (2020). Nill began the 2022-23 campaign by bringing in new Head Coach Pete DeBoer, who became the second coach in NHL history to reach the Conference Finals with four different franchises during the Stars' 2023 postseason run. Prior to the start of the season, Nill extended the contracts of forward Jason Robertson and goaltender Jake Oettinger -- both of whom went on to post career-best seasons -- and acquired defenseman Nils Lundkvist via trade. Nill also signed forward Roope Hintz, the Stars' leading scorer in the 2023 postseason, to an eight-year contract extension in November before acquiring forwards Evgenii Dadonov and Max Domi ahead of the trade deadline, bolstering the team as it headed into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Nill has shaped the Stars significantly through the NHL Draft. Of the 31 players who appeared in at least one game for Dallas during the 2022-23 campaign, 15 were drafted by the Stars under Nill's leadership. Wyatt Johnston, selected by the Stars in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2021 draft, became the most recent addition to the team via the draft in 2022-23, appearing in all 82 regular-season games and sharing the lead among league rookies with 24 goals.

"We're really proud of Jim on this accomplishment," said Dallas Stars Owner and Governor Tom Gaglardi. "He's been a cornerstone of this organization for a decade, and the club's performance on the ice this season was a testament to his exceptional work over that time. This season represented another stride towards our ultimate goal of winning another championship for the city of Dallas."

During Nill's tenure, the Stars have amassed a record of 403-280-98 and have made the Stanley Cup Playoffs in six seasons (2013-14, 2015-16, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2021-22 and 2022-23). He received his first nomination for the General Manager of the Year award in 2015-16 after the Stars finished at the top of the Western Conference in the regular season. He was nominated for the second time following the 2019-20 season in which the Stars went to the Stanley Cup Final before falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a six-game series.
