 Jamie Benn Highlights
Stars forward Jamie Benn was named “First Star” of the week by the National Hockey League on Monday, an honor based his work from Jan. 2-8.

Benn sparked the Dallas offense for the week with seven points (four goals, three assists), tallying multiple points in each of his appearances, as the Stars (23-16-1) won two of three starts. He notched a goal and two assists in a 5-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings last Tuesday, tallied one goal and one assist in a 4-1 victory over the Nashville Predators Thursday and scored two goals, including his fourth game-winner of the season, in a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

“It’s an honor, for sure,” said Benn from practice on Monday. “The most important thing is that we won two of the three games and that is something we always focus on. I had a good week but my teammates deserve just as much credit. I’m not out there doing it by myself. I just go out there and play my game and have fun. But it’s nice to be recognized and our focus is always on winning games. This is a big road trip for us (that we are about to start) with divisional match-ups and we want to keep playing well.”

Playing in his third NHL season, Benn has recorded points in 10 of his past 11 games and leads the Stars in scoring with 13 goals and 28 assists for 41 points in 40 contests. The 22-year old Victoria, B.C., native has matched the output of his rookie season two years ago and his 82-point pace would shatter his career high of 56, set last season.

The NHL also recognized Toronto right wing Joffrey Lupul as the league’s “Second Star,” with two goals and five assists. Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson was named “Third Star of the week,” going 3-0-1 with a 2.41 goals-against-average and a .929 save percentage.

Dallas play two games on the road this week – Tuesday at Anaheim (9:00 pm CT, FOX Sports Southwest Plus), and Thursday at Los Angeles (9:30 pm CT, FOX Sports Southwest). Both games can be heard on Sports Radio 1310 the Ticket.
