Guerin named NHL Offensive Player of the Week

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Dallas Stars right wing Bill Guerin, who tallied two hat tricks in three games and led all scorers with seven points (6-1--7), has been named the National Hockey League's Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 2.

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Robert Esche, who compiled a 3-0-0 record, 0.67 goals-against average, one shutout and .969 save percentage,has been named the League's Defensive Player of the Week.

Carolina Hurricanes center Josef Vasicek (5-0--5 in four games) and San Jose Sharks defenseman Scott Hannan (1-2--3, +2, 26 minutes in ice time per game) were runners-up for the offensive and defensive honors, respectively.

Guerin scored three goals in the Stars' 4-3 overtime victory against Calgary on Oct. 29 and tallied his fifth career hat trick (3-1--4), including the game-winning goal and +2 rating, in a 7-3 victory against Nashville on Nov. 2.

Guerin has nine goals in 12 games this season, second in the League to Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk (11 goals).

Esche made 20 saves to record his first shutout of the season and sixth of his career in a 5-0 victory against Montreal on Oct. 27, stopped 21 of 22 shots in a 5-1 victory against Florida on Oct. 29 and turned aside 21 of 22 shots in a 7-1 victory at Toronto on Nov. 1.
