FRISCO, Texas --Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nillannounced today that the club has signed centerGemel Smithto a one-year, $720,000 contract.

Smith, 24, recorded 11 points (6-5=11) and a +5 plus/minus rating in 46 regular-season games with Dallas during the 2017-18 season. Scoring six goals on 42 shots, the center finished third among all Stars skaters with a 14.3% shooting percentage.

Smith made his NHL debut in 2016-17, posting six points (3-3=6) in 17 regular-season games with Dallas. The center has appeared in 63 career regular-season NHL contests, all with Dallas, and has registered 17 points (9-8=17). Smith has also skated in 186 regular-season games with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League, recording 86 points (35-51=86) over parts of three seasons.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was originally selected by Dallas in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
