Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that defenseman Esa Lindell has been signed to a three-year, entry-level contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Lindell, 19, skated in 44 games for Jokerit in the Finnish Elite League during the 2013-14 season, posting five points (2-3=5), 10 penalty minutes and a +8 rating for the club. He represented his home country of Finland in the 2014 World Junior Championship where he was tied for second among all defensemen in the tournament with five points (2-3=5) in seven games, helping Finland capture their first gold medal in the tournament since 1998.
During the 2011-12 season, Lindell led the Finnish Elite Junior League with 51 points (21-30=51) in 48 games. That season he was selected to that junior league's All-Star Team and was named the Best Player of the Regular Season.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound native of Vantaa, Finland was selected by Dallas in the third round (74th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft.
