FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Stars General ManagerJim Nill and Director of Amateur Scouting Joe McDonnell selected center Mavrik Bourque with the 30th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft. The selection was made by Dallas Stars Assistant General Manager and Texas Stars General Manager Scott White from Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.

"Mavrik is a center with great upside, and he will continue to physically mature," stated McDonnell. "He has elite hockey sense which makes him a solid playmaker."

Bourque, 18, has one assist in two games played for Shawinigan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) this season. In 2019-20, he tied for the team lead with 71 points (29-42=71) for Shawinigan and his 42 assists were tied for 18th in the QMJHL. Amongst QMJHL rookies in 2018-19, his 25 goals tied for the league lead and his 54 points were tied for second.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Plessisville, Quebec skated in five games for Canada at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup where he registered an assist.

The Stars have four picks on Wednesday, including one in the fourth round (123rd overall), one in the fifth round (154th overall) and two in the sixth round (162nd and 185th overall). The second day of the 2020 NHL Draft will feature Rounds Two through Seven and will begin at 10:30 a.m. CT on NHL Network.
