Prospect Report: Miro Heiskanen continues strong start in Finland

The third-overall pick in 2017 has two goals and one assist in his first three games

Stars defense prospect Miro Heiskanen only had one game scheduled this past week, and he continued to produce. Heiskanen scored one goal, was a plus-two and logged 21:19 of ice time as HIFK defeated TPS, 5-2, Saturday in Finland's top league.

Heiskanen, the third-overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, scored from the slot on the rush to put HIFK up 2-0 in Saturday's game. It gave the 18-year-old defenseman goals in consecutive games.

Heiskanen, who missed the first eleven games of the season due to a concussion, has played three games since returning from injury, and has recorded two goals and one assist while averaging 23:44 of ice time.

Europe

LW Valeri Nichushkin (1st round/2013) is on a good run in Russia's KHL. Nichushkin had one goal and one assist in two games this past week and now has eight points (four goals, four assists) in his past seven games for CSKA Moscow. For the season, Nichushkin has eleven points (seven goals, four assists) in 17 games and is averaging 16:45 of ice time per game.

D Jakob Stenqvist (6th round/2016) registered four assists in four games in Sweden's second-highest league over the past week. Stenqvist has seven assists in nine games for Bjorkloven and is tops among league defensemen in scoring.

C Jacob Peterson (5th round/2017) recorded one goal and one assist in three games in Swedish juniors giving him 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 12 games. Peterson also played in one game for Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League but saw limited playing time.

D John Nyberg (6th round/2014) had no points in two games for Frolunda in the SHL over the past week. He logged a season-high 21:15 of ice time in Saturday's game and is averaging 19:14 for the season.

LW/C Fredrik Karlstrom (3rd round/2016) did not register any points in two games for Linkoping in the SHL last week. He has no points in 10 games.

G Markus Ruusu (6th round/2015) went 1-1-0 with Ilves in Finland's top league, stopping 28 of 34 shots. He is 3-3-0 with a 2.53 goals against average and .887 save percentage.

D Miro Karjalainen (5th round/2014) played one game in Finland's top league and did not record any points. He has two assists in eight games for HPK.

North American Juniors

LW Jason Robertson (2nd round/2017) recorded one goal and two assists in three games for Kingston in the Ontario Hockey League over the past week. Robertson has nine points (six goals, three assists) in nine games and leads his team in goals, and is tied for the team lead in points.

RW Nick Caamano (5th round/2016) registered one goal and two assists in three games for Flint in the OHL. Caamano has nine points (three goals, six assists) in nine games.

C Liam Hawel (4th round/2017) scored one goal in three games for Guelph of the OHL giving him two goals in seven games this season.

C Brett Davis (6th round/2017) continues on a nice run in the Western Hockey League. He had one assist in each of his two games for Kootenay giving him points in six of his past seven games. Davis has six points (three goals, three assists) in nine games.

D Ondrej Vala (Free agent/2016) picked up one goal and one assist in three games for Kamloops of the WHL. Vala has six points (two goals, four assists) in eleven games and is tied for the team lead in scoring among defensemen.

NCAA

G Jake Oettinger (1st round/2017) lost both his starts over the weekend as No. 2-ranked Boston University was swept in a weekend series against Minnesota State, 6-3 and 3-0. Oettinger allowed eight goals on 64 shots in the two games. He is 2-2-0 on the season with a 2.71 goals against average and .914 save percentage.

C/LW Rhett Gardner (4th round/2016) scored one goal in two games as No. 8 North Dakota swept a weekend series against St. Lawrence. Gardner has three points (one goal, two assists) in four games this season.

LW Riley Tufte (1st round/2016) did not score in two games over the weekend as No. 5 Minnesota Duluth lost to Bemidji State 5-2 on Friday and then played to a scoreless tie on Saturday. Tufte has two goals in four games.
