FRISCO, Texas --Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nillannounced today that the club has claimed forward Marián Studenič off waivers from the New Jersey Devils and recalled forward Riley Tufte from the Texas Stars, Dallas' top development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). Additionally, the team has placed defenseman Andrej Sekera on Long Term Injured Reserve due to a non-COVID-related viral infection retroactive to Jan. 28 and placed forward Tanner Kero on waivers and gave him non-roster status.

Studenic, 23, has split the 2021-22 campaign between New Jersey and Utica (AHL). He's skated in 17 games with New Jersey this season, recording one goal (1-0=1), 24 shots and an average time on ice per game of 11:48. The forward also posted 10 points (5-5=10), one power play goal and a +6 plus/minus rating in 13 AHL contests with Utica.
Studenic has earned three points (2-1=3) in 25 career NHL regular-season games over two seasons, all with the Devils. He has also recorded 62 points (30-32=62) in 136 career AHL regular-season games with Binghamton and Utica. Internationally, Studenic has represented Slovakia at two World Hockey Championships, two World Junior Championships and one World U18 Championship.
The 6-foot-1, 181-pound native of Skalica, Slovakia was originally selected by New Jersey in the fifth round (143rd overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.
Tufte, 23, has posted 17 points (10-7=17) in 37 AHL contests with Texas so far this season. He ranks fifth on the squad with 10 goals, while he's tied for fifth with one game-winning goal and shares sixth with one power play goal in 2021-22. Tufte also made his NHL debut earlier this season on Nov. 13 against Philadelphia and has skated in five career NHL games with Dallas, logging five hits and two shots on goal.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound native of Coon Rapids, Minn. was originally selected by Dallas in the first round (25th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft.
Sekera, 35, has skated in 24 games with Dallas this season and has recorded three assists (0-3=3). He has also posted 17 blocked shots and 12 hits with an average time on ice per game of 13:56 on the season. The 16-season NHL veteran has recorded 252 points (50-202=252) in 834 career regular-season NHL games with Buffalo, Carolina, Los Angeles, Edmonton and Dallas. Sekera has skated in 127 regular-season games over three seasons in a Stars sweater, posting 16 points (5-11=16).
The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Bojnice, Slovakia was originally selected by Buffalo in the third round (71st overall) over the 2004 NHL Draft and was signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 1, 2019.
Kero, 29, has earned three assists (0-3=3) in 23 games with the Stars in 2021-22. He has also registered 12 hits, nine blocked shots and 14 shots on goal with an average time on ice per game of 9:34. Additionally, the forward has skated in three AHL games with Texas this season, logging two assists (0-2=2). Kero has posted 35 points (11-24=35) in 134 career NHL regular-season games over five seasons with Chicago and Dallas.
The 6-foot, 185-pound native of Hancock, Mich. was originally undrafted and signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 1, 2019.
