FRISCO, Texas - Dallas Stars center Jason Spezza will host a hockey clinic on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Dr Pepper StarCenter Frisco. The clinic will be attended by the children who received grants this past year from the Jason Spezza Scholarship Fund presented by Texas Land and Cattle, which was established during the 2015-16 season.
Spezza, 33, personally pledged a total of $50,000 from 2015-16 to 2016-17 to kick start the scholarship fund. In support of Spezza's philanthropic efforts, Texas Land and Cattle donates $300 to the fund for every point he records throughout the 2015-16 and 2016-17 regular seasons. During the 2015-16 season, Texas Land and Cattle not only donated $18,900 for Spezza's 63 points (33-30=63), but they added $6,100 to match his $25,000 contribution for the season.
The Jason Spezza Scholarship Fund presented by Texas Land and Cattle grants monetary assistance for ice-time or program fees to children that cannot afford to play hockey due to adversity faced in their lives or financial restraints within their family. The two-time All-Star will host the recipients of the grants at the clinic, with an on-ice session from 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., followed by a lunch provided by Texas Land and Cattle.
"In a really short time, Dallas has become home for my family and we wanted to find a way to support hockey in this area," said Spezza. "We've seen how receiving these grants has affected the families, and it really fills our hearts with joy. I just can't wait to get out on the ice with all the kids and have some fun."
